The Haydn Hideaway

After brainstorming for a several hours about what to call my blog, I finally came up with the title "The Haydn Hideaway". I wanted to involve my name in the title, but I wanted something involving music since it is my primary teachable. In addition to really enjoying Haydn's works (he has some great bassoon solos...), his name conveniently has my name in it. Secondly, I decided to call this blog a 'hideaway'. I want this blog to feel like a retreat where I can reflect about my teaching and about the things we learn in our Internet for Educators course. I'm a fan of alliteration, so when The Haydn Hideaway came up in my head, I knew that would be the perfect name for this blog. Though I may not be writing about Haydn in particular, he was a wonderful composer and I'm sure my students will learn who he was and his works.

About the Author...

Welcome to my blog!

My name is Kayla Hay and I have just completed my final year of the B.Mus./B.Ed concurrent music education program at Brandon University. I will be starting my teaching career in beautiful Gillam, MB, teaching pre-K-8 general music beginning in May 2020.

I am an accomplished bassoonist, performing as principal in both the Brandon University Orchestra (2014-2020) and the Winnipeg Pops Orchestra (2019-2020). I regularly teach bassoon clinics and lessons throughout Manitoba. In addition to being a music educator, I am interested in teacher-librarianship and digital citizenship.

I started this blog as part of a course called 'Internet for Educators' at Brandon University. For that course, I had to write about what I learned in class and assignments called 'Tech Tasks'. Now as a recent grad, I hope to talk more about my experiences as a new teacher while trying to juggle musicianship at the same time.

I hope you enjoy!
